D&D Beyond says “OGL 1.0a will remain untouched!”

This was a short and surprising update—almost like a sigh of relief for the community. After weeks of heated debate and serious concern about the future of the Open Gaming License, D&D Beyond posted a statement confirming that OGL 1.0a will remain untouched. That’s a huge shift in the conversation.

They also announced that the entire SRD 5.1 (System Reference Document for 5e) is now available under a Creative Commons license. It’s a move that seems to acknowledge the strength and resolve of the D&D community—because let’s be real, this reversal wouldn’t have happened without the incredible pushback from players, creators, and fans alike.

Personally, I’m glad to see this decision—it feels like a step in the right direction. But there’s still a lot to process. There’s no language in their statement saying that OGL 1.0a is irrevocable, which leaves a bit of uncertainty for the long term. I’m hopeful, though, that this signals a true turning point in how Wizards and Hasbro see the relationship with the gaming community.

One thing’s for sure: it’s a powerful reminder that when a community speaks up—loudly and clearly—it can have a real impact.

For now, I’m feeling cautiously optimistic. Let’s see what happens next. If you want to hear more about the whole situation and my personal reactions, check out the full video. And let me know what you think in the comments!
