How to Create a Streaming Template with Canva
Creating a custom streaming template for your D&D game can take your online sessions to the next level. It’s not just about looking good—it’s about setting a tone, creating a vibe, and making sure everyone can follow the action.
In this video, I walk through how I design my templates using Canva. From the “starting soon” and “thanks for watching” screens to layouts that show both players and maps, Canva gives you a lot of flexibility—without needing to be a pro designer.
I break down the process step by step: picking a background that fits your campaign, adding dynamic elements like mist animations, and using green blocks as video placeholders that you can easily swap out in your streaming software. I also cover how to create multiple layouts that share a consistent style, so everything feels cohesive whether you’re in combat or showing off the world.
For me, building these templates is part of the fun of running a game. It’s a chance to add a little flair and keep your players engaged—not to mention making your stream look great for anyone watching along.
If you’re curious about how to put all of this together—or you want to see some of the visuals I’ve built—check out the video above. And if you’ve already made your own templates, I’d love to see how you bring your games to life!
Cheers,
Brian
