The (Almost Hidden) D&D “Further Resources”
While working on my video about the D&D for Kids “Build an Adventure” kit, I noticed a section on the Wizards of the Coast website that I’d never really paid attention to: the “Resources” tab. So in this video, I took some time to dive into it and see what’s really there—and how it can be useful to both new and seasoned players.
Inside this section, you’ll find guides on the six ability scores (like Strength and Charisma) written in plain language with great examples (think dagger-throwing and talking your way out of a fight!). It also covers core mechanics like difficulty classes (DCs) and explains how to use a d20 roll to overcome challenges in the game.
One of the coolest parts is the D&D Quick Reference—essentially a cheat sheet for what players can do during their turn in combat, including things like taking the Dodge action or using Help. This can be a game-changer for new players who might not realize just how many options they have!
The page also features a glossary of common D&D terms, which is helpful whether you’re a first-time DM or a player looking to brush up on the basics. And beyond that, there’s an interactive look at character sheets and monster stat blocks—showing exactly how each field and number is used.
Finally, I share how these resources—although tucked away and easy to miss—could make a big difference for anyone running or joining their first game. And if you want to see the walkthrough for yourself, check out the video.
Let me know in the comments if you’ve found any other hidden gems on the D&D website!
Cheers,
Brian
